The second edition of the No Plastic Challenge will begin on 22 May. Organised by the NGO No Plastic in my Sea, the event sets out to encourage members of the public to adopt 15 eco-friendly actions to reduce their consumption of plastic.
The fight against plastic pollution: a global challenge
According to the latest IPBES report, plastic pollution has increased tenfold since 1980. It is estimated that more than 8 million tonnes of plastic leaks into the ocean each year – equal to dumping a dustbin lorry of plastic a minute – and up to 80% of all litter in our oceans is made of plastic according to UN Environment. These alarming figures call for concrete solutions to reduce land-based sources of pollution by changing the conception of the waste lifecycle to a more circular model, and by reducing the use of plastic, particularly single-use plastics.
